Having a Boy or Girl – Yes! You Can Choose What You Conceive!

Do you want a million dollar family? This is the coin termed to refer to families who have a boy and girl. I first heard this term when I gave birth to my second child, as I had had one of each gender.

Even if you are not after the million-dollar family, you may have some desire for one gender more than the other. When birth control was limited or really non-existent, parents had many children and knew that they had pretty good chances of having children of both genders. However, we now have less children, so if we want to influence the gender we get, we need to get it right the first time.

So it is easy to understand why many parents want to prepare so that they are having a boy or girl baby that they want. If you only plan on having two children, for example, you will not have many opportunities to get it right, so you need to get the information correct from the start!

Thankfully, advances in science in the areas of gender selection have made it possible to figure out what you need to do in order to get pregnant and end up having a boy or girl baby of your choice. Parents can take this information and put it to good use right from the comfort of their own homes.

The man’s sperm are either X or Y chromosomes. A woman’s egg contains X chromosomes. As a result, if the man’s X sperm meets with the woman’s egg, you will conceive a girl. If the man’s Y sperm meets with the woman’s egg, you will conceive a boy.

Scientists have found that X and Y differ in their motility, and therefore timing your conception is an important factor to consider. You have to know when you ovulate so that you can figure out when it is the appropriate time to have sexual intercourse.

It is also necessary to consume the right kinds of foods that create the right pH levels within your body, so that you increase the chances of having a boy or girl baby.

Another important, but often overlooked, thing that you need to do is limit stress in order that your body functions at its maximum level. Also be sure not to use cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol.

In summary, there are many more things that you can do to improve the odds of conceiving a boy or girl baby. You will want to be sure to find out all of the details on this as then you will be able to have the little baby you always wanted!

Information About Home Pregnancy Testing

February 26, 2011 by Adrianne Stew

Before you choose a test you should learn how they work. Home pregnancy tests look in your urine for hCG, human Chorionic Gonadotropin. This is made by the placenta once the fertilized egg (embryo) has implanted into the uterus lining. HCG levels are low at first but rapidly increase, and this hormone causes early pregnancy signs such as food cravings, tiredness, sickness and nausea.

A doctor would suggest testing after the woman misses a period, this is when the hCG is at high levels, but there are tests now that are more sensitive and offer the option of early testing. Early Response and Clearblue Easy for example can be used before a missed period. Very sensitive tests detect hCG as low as 20mIU but remember that even 3 weeks after conception hCG can be anywhere from 5 up to 50mIU. So even using a sensitive test you may get a false negative result.

Timing is crucial when looking for accurate results from home testing. After conception the embryo needs to get to the uterus before the body triggers hCG production and is officially pregnant. This can take six to twelve days of travel so you need to wait at least 12 days before you test even if using a sensitive one. Women undergoing fertility treatment should not use home tests as they can get false positives.

The cost of home pregnancy tests ranges from $8 to $20. Some are digital some have lines, but all need to have the directions read carefully. If you are not using a sensitive test wait until after a missed period so that you have enough hCG in your body to be detected. In order to make sure your results are as accurate as can be here are a few tips to follow:

Use your first urine of the day as the hCG is easier to detect in this more concentrated urine. At least 4 hour urine is best. The leaflet needs to be read carefully and followed exactly for the best accuracy. You should only read the test at the time the instructions say, usually 1 to 3 minutes after peeing on the stick. After that the test is no good. A doctor can do a blood test if you are having problems.

All there is to know about an early pregnancy test and pregnancy testing in general. Today’s special: how to get pregnant with a boy

Ovulation

Ovulation is the part of the menstrual cycle where the ovary releases an egg to be fertilized during conception, or sloughed off during a woman’s period. This 3D medical animation depicts in exquisite detail: follicle development within the ovary, the movement of the fimbriae over the ovulation site before ovulation, the bursting of the egg from the ovary in a rush of fluid, delicate quality of the ciliated fimbriae and its movement to pick up the egg after ovulation, peristalsis of the fallopian tube to move the egg toward the uterus. Ovulation must take place in order for a woman to get pregnant, preceding the meeting of the male sperm during fertilization. ovulação ovulatie ANS00353 catalog.nucleusinc.com

Understand Your Ovulation Cycle And Get Pregnant

March 6, 2010 by Jenny Belle

Congratulations on your decision to get pregnant! Trying to conceive (TTC) is an exciting process, but there are some things you should know about ovulation cycles in order to predict your ovulation and maximize your chances of getting pregnant.

Generally, we start counting a menstrual cycle from the first day of your period, so that would be Cycle Day 1 (CD1). For several days your body will be shedding the uterine linings that were built up in the previous cycle in preparation for a possible embryo; since you didn’t yet get pregnant, that lining is now going away in the form of your menstrual flow so you can start fresh.

Ovulation gets triggered by the release of a hormone called the Lutenizing Hormone, often abbreviated as LH. The level of LH increases dramatically previous to ovulation, so most ovulation tests check for ovulation by testing the level of LH in your blood stream via proxies such as urine or saliva, thus the “pee sticks”. An egg then gets released from the ovary 12-24 hours after the LH surge, so monitoring the hormone levels is a good way of predicting when the ovulation will occur.

Charting, which involves checking the basal (resting) temperature of the woman as soon as she wakes up, preferably at the same time every day, also relies on the changes in the normal body temperature related to the hormone levels for indications of ovulation. However, as the fluctuations involved is rather small, usually only a degree or two at the most, it can be difficult to accurately read the charts.

When are you most fertile? Well, the sperm can survive in a woman’s body for up to 3 days, so it is possible for you to get pregnant anytime from 2 days before ovulation occurs until about 3 days later. This means that well-timed sex during those five days can maximize the chances for getting pregnant. During that time the mature egg is traveling on its way from the ovary down to the uterus; too early and the sperm won’t be around when the egg is ripe, too late and your body will be ready to clean house again with the next menstrual period.

There are several difficulties with predicting your ovulation using either ovulation tests or charting. Since ovulation tests only look for the presence of the LH surge, it cannot tell you in advance and you lose the 2 days previous to ovulation where you are still fertile. Charting, on the other hand, can often be complicated, both to accurately record the temperature and to decipher the graphs for signs of hormone changes. An easier modern solution that can tell you of all your fertile days is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor.
