Get Yourself Ready For Baby Delivery

Many soon-to-be mothers always wonder when they are actually in labor. Honestly, it is different for everybody. There are some women who will develop more than obvious signs and then there are some others who will see signs of a much more subtle nature.

Before the baby is to be delivered, a tell tale sign is the change of shape of a woman’s stomach. This is due to the baby moving down to the pelvis region in preparation for birth. She will notice that breathing gets a little bit easier and this sign is known as “lightening”.

Urinating and water breaking can sometimes be mistaken for one another. So how do you tell which is which? When the amniotic sac breaks around your baby, the fluid that is discharged can be sometimes confused for urine. However, amniotic fluid will not smell the same as urine. If you do notice an odor, as a safety measure it is best to mention this to your doctor.

Other signs that a woman will be given will come from labor contractions. Initially, these contractions will start quite subtly and may feel like period cramps occurring around the lower back. They normally will happen at regular intervals, and the interval time should get shorter and shorter as to baby prepares to be delivered. The contractions also become a lot stronger and more intense.

Another sign that you are in labor, is a stringy vaginal discharge. The thick mucus is part of the plug in your cervix that has come loose.

In most cases if you think that labor has really begun, the best thing to do is to call your midwife or general practitioner for instructions. Many women can go through a couple of false alarms during maternity, and this is quite normal. Your doctor will know better whether you are truly in labor or not.

Since the prospect of a pending labor can bring about tons of nervous excitement, it is best you and your family get prepared. So starting right now, prepare a list of useful phone numbers and placed them next to every phone in your household so you don’t have to scramble through the phone book to minute your contractions start.
